Over the Mountains (An Aerial View of Geology) Reviews

Product Overview

IntroducingAn Aerial View of Geologyseries.

Geology is thrilling. It's the Earth in all its splendor. Unfortunately, geology texts rarely communicate that sense of excitement.

Enter Michael Collier, geologist, writer and one of America's premier aerial photographers. For over 20 years, he has piloted his Cessna 180 to inaccessible locations and returned with stunning photographs that lay bare the Earth's workings.

Over the Mountains, the first book in Michael Collier's new series, focuses on geology's most spectacular subject in a most spectacular way. It includes:

  • Detailed and breathtaking large-format color photographs covering the geology of every major mountain range in the United States
  • Clear, easy-to-understand text, diagrams and captions that explain and illuminate the geologic processes shown in the photographs.

After exploring the pages of Over the Mountains, readers will never think of mountains -- or geology -- in the same way again.

Ice Age Earth: Late Quaternary Geology and Climate (Physical Environment) Reviews

Product Overview

Ice Age Earth provides the first detailed review of global environmental change in the Late Quaternary. Significant geological and climatic events are analysed within a review of glacial and periglacial history. The melting history of the last ice sheets reveals that complex, dynamic and catastrophic change occurred, change which affected the circulation of the atmosphere and oceans and the stability of the Earth's crust.

Quantitative Geophysics and Geology (Springer Praxis Books / Geophysical Sciences) Reviews

Product Overview

This book is unique in bridging the gap between geology and geophysics. Its integrative approach presents students and researchers in these disciplines with other methodologies as they try to understand the Earth's processes. It runs the gamut of earth sciences, from earthquakes and seismic exploration to thermal convection and the orogenic processes. Each chapter starts with the well-established facts and then proceeds through a logical framework to the most conjectural questions, such as continental drift in Paleozoicc and Precambrian times or mantle convection. Many of the issues discussed here do not yet have unanimously agreed solutions, but the extensive references point the reader to further possibilities.

The Path of the Pole: Cataclysmic Poleshift Geology Reviews

Product Overview

Hapgood's tour de force is back in print! This riveting account of how Earth's poles have flipped positions many times is the culmination of Hapgood's extensive research of Antarctica, ancient maps and the geological record. This amazing book discusses the various pole shifts in Earth's history-occurring when Earth's crust slips in the inner core-and gives evidence for each one. It also predicts future pole shifts: a planetary alignment will cause the next one on May 5, 2000! Packed with illustrations, this book is the reference other books on the subject cite over and over again. With millennium madness in full swing, this is just the book to generate even more excitement at the unknown possibilities.

Bouguer Gravity Regional and Residual Separation: Application to Geology and Environment For Sale

Bouguer Gravity Regional and Residual Separation: Application to Geology and Environment | | Reviews

Product Overview

The process of regional-residual separation in potential field is age-old.  Broadly, there are two techniques for regional-residual resolution, viz., graphical and analytical. Both the techniques have their own respective shortcomings. In this book, the authors have described the technique based on finite element method in which only eight (or twelve) nodal observed gravity values are used for the regional computation, thereby eliminating the possible contamination of anomalous fields and also the technique does not assume an explicit model and physical properties like density of rocks etc. in the regional computation. The book discusses the advantages of this technique viz., it is not site-specific; the computation is independent of any prior assumptions as to the form and depth of shallow or deeper structures; it can handle data distributed at random or on a regular grid on the map space; and the neighbouring surveys join smoothly.   The book focuses on application of this new technique which has been demonstrated in different fields, such as hydrocarbon, minerals and groundwater, structural studies, earthquake and engineering studies and impact structures.
